School Council

This year’s school council is up and running following a successful training event for all the form leaders and deputy form leaders. The girls developed the necessary skills to run a successful form council meeting, how to listen to their peers and guide the group through discussions in order to compile a short list of issues to be raised at the next school council meeting.

The representatives refined their skills for minute taking and decision making, allowing them to judge if an issue identified in form time is worth raising or has it be dealt with in previous meeting. The council would the then gather once a month to discuss any issues, formulate an action plan to deal with the issues, convene a working group to gather information regarding the issue and devise a possible solution.

Mr Goodall, Dr Callachand, Mr Evans, Dr Johnson and Miss Rafferty are the staff facilitators who supervise the meeting taking place but the school council is run purely by the pupils. The staff offer advice and some guidance, however the meeting is chaired and led by the head girl, ably assisted by her deputy. The school council meet once a month and are the voice of the pupils in the running of the school. The council has implemented changes in the school uniform regarding the school shoe policy, the meal options in redwoods and the development of the homework diary and achievement cards.

If you have anything you feel may need to be discussed then bring it up in your form council meeting, helping to ensure the pupil voice is always heard in Hunterhouse.
